Dear Members, Parents and Students, We are once again getting ready for another season of dance that will start with the Bharatanatyam dance debut of Sejal Khara. This event will be held on September 12 at the Jewish community centre. Please be amongst us to celebrate and bless this unique occasion. This summer, academy graduate Kiruthika Rathanaswami was one of 20 students from 6 countries to be selected for Sampad's "Danse Intense", this year held and presented in Toronto by artistic director Smt. Lata Pada of "Sampradaya Dance Creation". It was 2 weeks of intense training with a variety of teachers from around the world. As an observer, Jai Govinda also attended 2 days of the residency, to feel the pulse of this summer intensive. It was a fantastic opportunity to watch the development of young dancers and future creators in dance, and Kiruthika benefited greatly from this experience. We are very pleased that she was selected for that special experience. Please read the review of the event by Dr. Sunil Kothari on www.narthaki.com. In early August, Jai Govinda also taught a 3 day Bharatanatyam workshop in Montreal for "Sattvika Danse" under the direction of Mrs. Ginette Dion Ahmed, also an academy graduate. In the warm sultry weather of Montreal, the students completed a beautiful Pushpanjali. This summer, the artistic community of Vancouver was hit by large financial cuts from the Provincial government and the B.C. Gaming office. It is a huge blow to a community that is already struggling for lack of better funding. Mandala will participate at a series of meetings organized by 'Alliance for Arts and Culture". The larger arts community will engage in a dialogue to try to ease the situation. Kindly support our endeavors for a better environment for arts and culture in B.C.. Please write to our elected officials, and bring forth the importance of arts and culture for our youth and our society. In November, we will also have the Arangetram of our first academy male student in B.C., Dr. Sujit Vaidya. We will keep you posted with all other details of this event shortly. There are also preparations for 2 other Arangetrams in 2010. Jai Govinda Dance Academy
